It's been snowing a lot this year. Removing all the snow from the streets is always a big problem for our city's government. So though the main streets are generally clean, everything else looks like this:

cars in snow

These are cars near my home. Very few people have their own garage and parking spaces are quite expensive, so most car owners just leave their cars parked in the street. Some people don't use their cars in winter at all (don't ask me why) and by now they look like this.

Can you see a car? Such cars are unofficially called "snowdrops".car covered with snow

This is how our street looks like.  As soon as it all melts, we're going to have a small flood here. Rubber boots are already a best-seller :)

The woman on the right is selling  mimosa, a kind of small fluffy yellow flowers. They're the symbol of Women's day in Russia, which is celebrated on March, 8. The girl on the left is advertising something (a common students'  part-time job).

smilies/smiley.gif Thanks

"Подснежник" meaning "snowdrop" is a common name of a flower. Literally "под-снежник" means "the one under the snow" - so that's why old cars left outside (under the snow) for winter are called so smilies/smiley.gif I don't know if this slang expression is used all over Russia or if it is a StP's exclusive.
