Advanced Russian Lesson - Cross Country Skiing in Russia
Finally I present to you my first lesson for advanced students of Russian. Get a feel for what it is like skiing in winter in Russia. This is a lesson about cross country skiing in Yekaterinburg with me narrating over the video.

Good question Michael! It is the coat of arms of Yekaterinburg
Top part of the shield resembles a castle, which Yekaterinburg was in the beginning. The wavy azure stripe on the bottom is the river Iset, connecting the past and modern times, Europe and Asia. The bear is the symbol of Europe and the sable is the symbol of Asia. The sable also represented the Ural metall quality at the times of the Demidovs (famous Ural manufacturers of 18th Century). The animals are behind the shield sticking their tounges out and showing their teeth - they're aggressive because the're guarding the town. The golden ribbon on the bottom represents a "large city" scale of Yekaterinburg - one of the major financial, industrial, transportation, cultural,and scientific centers of Russia.
